So a while back, my friend Harlan who is a pretty righteous dude, told me about "The Great Pacific Garbage Patch." For those of you who have not heard of this, you need to check this film, but here is the basic principles:
1. When plastics (poly bi-carbonates I believe) are created, they never go away, and are chocked full of toxic materials.
2. We create so much un-recyclable plastic, it has no where to go, so it is breaking down into its smallest form and floating around in a big circular whirlpool current in the Pacific Ocean, and no one is doing anything about it.
3. Fish are mistaking it for plankton, and eating it, and then it is killing them, and will sooner than later kill you.
It is a serious bummer because once again, it feels as if we have gone to far to turn back. All I can say is, I have stopped using plastic at the super market, stopped drinking plastic bottled stuff, etc. but I never feel like I am doing enough. I watched this film and immediately sent an email to Subway to stop using plastic bags.
Please, please, please don't be lazy. Refuse the plastic bag the clerk tries to stuff your pack of gum in. Buy the reusable grocery bags. Get a recycling bin for your trash and separate that shit out.
Watch the film by clicking on the banner below. It is long, but you don't do anything at work anyway.
Go Green (as you can...)
Cheers!
